Jon Means’ family has been ranching in the Davis Mountains of West Texas since 1884. He owns the Means Ranch Co. and resides at Moon Ranch in Jeff Davis County. Means has carefully implemented natural resource conservation efforts in the region and sustained the ability of Means Ranch to produce quality beef while simultaneously protecting the natural resource base. When Hurricane Ike destroyed ranchland and livestock in southeast Texas, Means was serving as president of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. He led the organization in helping distressed ranchers relocate thousands of cattle.
