Young wildlife biologists gathered at the Ranch on Saturday, April 18, to learn all about Northern Bobwhite Quail with Texas Tech Quail and how researchers are helping this species through various conservation practices.

Through engaging, hands-on activities, they explored the quail’s life cycle—nesting, brooding, foraging, loafing, roosting—and its challenges with predators. They also discovered how and why researchers are working to conserve this vital, yet declining, rangeland species through a variety of innovative conservation practices.

“For many ranchers, the Northern Bobwhite Quail is a treasured rangeland inhabitant. Unfortunately, bobwhite populations are declining throughout their historic range in Texas.” – Dr. Brad Dabbert, Burnett Foundation Endowed Professor of Quail Ecology.
