Named for the historic Pitchfork Land and Cattle Co. in Guthrie, Texas, the pavilion is an all-weather structure. It was rebuilt in 2004, making it bigger with new hard-surface flooring, attractive lighting and ceiling fans. Large doors were added to three sides, so the facility can be enclosed or opened for year-round use. A large stone fireplace dominates the east wall.
Pitchfork Ranch Pavilion
c. 2004
Originally dedicated as the D Burns Memorial Barbecue Pavilion in 1981, the new structure, which was funded by the ranch, was renamed by the Pitchfork Ranch board to recognize all of the ranch’s managers since it was organized in 1883. The ranch managers’ names are included on a plaque inside the pavilion and the ranch brand is inset into the concrete outside the structure.
