Ranch Life with and Without Technology: Activity 4, Ranch Life Book 1: Ranching & Livestock

Students examine how technological advances have changed ranching practices over time. By comparing ranch life before and after the introduction of tools such as windmills, mechanized equipment, and digital systems, students develop an understanding of innovation’s role in shaping agricultural productivity and daily labor. After reading Chapter 4 (pages 11–22), students discuss how technology affects efficiency, sustainability, and quality of life for ranchers, and consider what ranching might look like in the future.
