Diary Match: Activity 2, Ranch Life Book 4: Ranch Weather

In this activity, students step into the role of a ranch historian.

Using real ranch diary entries from the early 1900s, students analyze clues to determine which season each entry describes. They work collaboratively to sort entries and justify their reasoning using evidence from the text.

Use it for:

  • Building historical thinking and interpretation skills
  • Practicing evidence-based reasoning
  • Connecting primary sources to real-world ranch life

This activity brings history to life while helping students understand how weather and seasons shaped daily work on the ranch.
